SPECIALTY TRAINEE PROGRAMME IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE
A new and exciting post has been designed for a middle grade in Emergency Medicine at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospital.This position is designed to initiate, train and support a CESR program in Emergency Medicine.
The successful candidate will have a thorough induction into both national and local guidelines and introduction into the emergency medicine list of presentations and procedures according to the curriculum set by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. The candidate will have regular support and supervision throughout the initial 6 month period by both an clinical and education supervisor.
The candidate will need at least 2 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine in order to apply for this senior training position.There will be an opportunity after the first year to rotate through pediatrics, acute medicine, ITU and anesthetics at yearly intervals.
There will also be short clinical attachments in subspecialties such as: obstetrics and gynecology, ENT, Maxfax, ophthalmology, fracture clinic and orthopedics, ambulatory care, surgical assessment unit, GUM and a possibility of experience with our infectious disease team.
Our training program includes a monthly training day covering the emergency medicine higher training curriculum, simulation training and critical appraisal skills for evidence based medicine.
There will be continuous support in completing work based assessment and sitting emergency medicine exams provided throughout the post. Keeping resuscitation skills and courses up to date will be supported in house, these include- ALS, EPLS, ATLS, IMPACT, level 1 ultrasound and a core procedures course.
Our postgraduate department is very supportive, our Associate Director of Medical Education will help oversee and facilitate training programs for our middle grade doctors.
Northwick Park / Ealing Hospital emergency department is a busy, exciting and fast paced environment. The nursing and support staff are highly trained, friendly and a great support to all those entering into this dynamic team.
The new Emergency department is a large, bright and well equipped modern area. It includes a rapid assessment area, a care pathway for mobile majors patients, a high dependency area, majors beds, a 7 bedded resuscitation area with a trauma cubicle as we are a trauma unit and a pediatric A&E supported 24 hours a day by the pediatric on call teams.In addition to the main shop floor duties, the successful candidate will also be involved in the care of patients in the Observation unit which accepts short stay patients and chairs for mobile patients requiring further tests eg cardiac troponin or awaiting results from further imaging eg CTKUB.
Our local population is diverse with many schools and young families and a significant elderly community. Many of the community travel abroad during the holiday periods and this means our ED has a high attendance rate with multiple pathologies.
The wide range of clinical exposure during this post will provide a stimulating and rewarding work experience for the successful candidate and the opportunity to train in the amazing specialty that is Emergency Medicine.
